How To Start An eCommerce Business

You might be sitting there in your home office wondering, “how in the world am I going to start my own business?”. And if this sounds like you, I totally get it. Starting your own business is a seriously daunting task that I do not blame anyone for feeling stressed about. However, the good news for you is that you have people like me who are willing to take time out of my precious day to tell you how to start your own eCommerce business online in silly little articles like this one. If you are unfamiliar with the world of eCommerce, it is a form of business that takes place in a completely remote setting, which is very different from some sort of in-person store or a brick and mortar storefront. Personally, I am a huge proponent of eCommerce businesses because they offer a lot of flexibility with how you want to run your business. It is also worth mentioning that eCommerce businesses are incredibly profitable right now, thanks to our good friend COVID19. Since so many people have spent time staying home and shopping online, eCommerce companies have been extremely lucrative and successful in the past year or so. So if you are looking for how to start your own eCommerce business but are not really sure how to begin, I would definitely advise you to start off by reading this article in it;s entirety. It will not be long to read, especially because I am already about a third of the way through it (thank goodness)!

The first thing that you need to know about starting your own eCommerce business is that it is going to involve a lot of shipping. This makes sense, since you won’t have an actual storefront with which to sell your products. How else are your customers going to receive the items that they buy from you? That being said, it is going to be super critical to invest in lots of packing and shipping materiel like poly bags, shipping boxes, and other types of packaging. I personally am a huge proponent of poly bags, since they are extremely cheap and affordable and offer a great deal of protection when it comes to shipping items.

It is also important to note that those types of shipping bags are best for things like clothing or other softer materials that you may want to ship. For large, bulkier items, corrugated boxes and other similar boxes may be the way to go. Either way, I want to stress the importance of having shipping supplies on hand to successfully get your products to the customer. If the product shows up at your customers door and is completely ruined due to not being packaged properly, you are probably going to lose your customer the next time they go to buy something.

It is also really important that you pick the right product to sell online. Some people will just sell any random product that they can find for cheap, usually built by some underpaid children in China, and then turn around and sell it for twice the amount on Amazon or something like that. Unless you do not care about other people at all, I highly suggest that you stay away from this type of business model. Instead, find a product to sell that you are passionate about.
