While there are some stretch films that are slowly becoming the smallest and lowest amounts of carbon footprints, some people are still looking for alternatives to this. Stretch film is absolutely necessary for packaging, so you need to figure out something that’ll do it correctly, allowing you to palletize and secure all the pallets for the proper transportation. Sustainable stretch wrap is the answer, and it’s something that’s actually recyclable in lots of cases, offering you a chance to get the full benefits, and help save the planet.
Recyclable Stretch Film
This is one of the best sustainable options. This is made from low-density polyethylene, which is totally and completely recyclable. But, a lot of companies are not aware of this, so a lot of it lands inside the dumpster or worse, and it’s something that a lot of people don’t know how t recycle.
This is partially due to single-stream facilities to recycle, and the fact that it’s like this is why a lot of items do not get recycled. Many places will assume that you just send this off and then boom, they’re recycled. However, usually these are so fully removed that they get thrown in a landfill.
However, the best solution to this is to figure out how to adequately an easily you can recycle this. You can usually see this at most recycling facilities, where they offer proper infrastructure with the packaging, including stretch film, since these facilities are able to do this.
You may want to look into different producers, who like to use used recycled stretch film, or even waste in order to recycle this into brand-new items.
Not only will this reduce the waste of it, but if you do bundle this correctly and exactly before you pick it up, you don’t have to worry about wasting money. They might even pay you for the wasted or used stretch film, if there is enough volume. So if you’re already using this, you just have to find the adequate facility to process this.
Recycled Film that Stretches
There are other kinds of recycled stretch film that’s out there, and it’s made from PIR or PCR recycled forms of plastic. PCR is a fancy word for post-consumer recycled, so the materials are created through recycled items that are made in waste. PIR is post-industrial recycled, so I’s made from material that’s recycled via industrial waste.
Many companies and other facilities within the industry of stretch film do want to use the correct infrastructure to recycle this waste and film. they’ll collect, sort, and bundle them together, and it all comes from the same industrial waste. It’s then used to create new and impressive stretch film that you can enjoy.
This is something that is great because it can use the LLDPE stretch film and it’s properly bundled and sorted. However, there are some companies that will even pick up those unsorted waste films that are bundled. They won’t pay you for this, because it is a bit more complex, and it’s an excess cost to them.
Biodegradable stretch film
Finally, this is stretch film that’s biodegradable, and it’s made so that it produces the least amount of impact on the world around you. It comes directly from biodegradable items, and polymers which are plant-based, and this helps break down stretch film much faster, which can take a thousand years to get rid of.
But this one will break down in less than five years. However, for it to fully degrade, it must betaken care of in a composting facility, or in a composting pile at home.
